When we bought our home, I thought we were finally stepping into our dream — a safe, beautiful place to raise our family and watch our son grow.
But soon after moving in, small red flags started to appear.

There were things our home inspection had completely missed — issues we later realized were early signs of moisture and hidden damage. What I didn’t know then is that standard home inspectors aren’t trained or required to check for mold.

We didn’t know that. And within months, everything began to change.

My toddler started losing words, having meltdowns, and showing neurological symptoms that looked like autism — only suddenly worse. Doctors later called it PANS/PANDAS, an autoimmune reaction triggered by infection and inflammation.

At the same time, my own health was deteriorating rapidly. I was exhausted, in pain, and covered in strange symptoms that no one could explain. Infectious disease doctors were perplexed. A rheumatologist finally diagnosed me with fibromyalgia and told me to accept it — that I’d just have to live like this.

But something in me refused to believe that.

Not one doctor mentioned that our home environment could be making us sick.

In 2023, desperate for a break, we decided to take a three-month van life trip across the country. We spent every day outdoors, breathing clean air, grounded in nature — and something incredible happened:

We began to heal.

My energy came back. My son’s symptoms improved dramatically. Our minds and bodies started recovering in ways that felt miraculous.

That’s when it hit me — maybe it wasn’t us. Maybe it was the house.

When we returned home, I ordered an ERMI test to measure mold contamination. The results came back off the charts. The mold levels were dangerously high — but we still couldn’t find where it was coming from. We had remodeled just two years earlier, so I couldn’t understand how this was possible.

That was the tall-tale sign that our environment had been the root cause of everything.
